Southern
Southern Region covers the diverse areas of Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Many of the major centres of population are situated on coastal or fluvial flood plains and are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change with over 170,000 properties at risk of flooding.
The Region was one of the worst affected by the Autumn 2000 floods, with over 2500 properties flooded, many on more than one occasion. We have undertaken some major improvements to reduce the risk of flooding, but there still remains a lot to be done. Coastal flooding still poses the greatest risk to loss of life across the Region.
