Increasing sea storms. Heavier rainfall. Rising sea levels.

Felix Chigama

‘I am a qualified civil engineer and I joined the Environment Agency in September 2005. I'm based at Fradley Park, working in Flood Risk Management – Upper Trent Area, Midlands.

I came across an advertisement for the post of Asset System Management Engineer in the New Civil Engineer (Institute of Civil Engineers). I was directed to a website “Fluid Facts” for more details about the job.

The ongoing events around climate change, and the fact that I could make a big difference to people's lives attracted me to flood risk management. I have a background in civil and building construction but I have been afforded a good opportunity for a new career. I have had ongoing support from colleagues in the office to help to adapt to my new role.

I am happy that the Environment Agency provides support for career development; training is regular and well structured and can be tailored to one's needs. I have a young family and the flexible working hours suit me perfectly.

I look forward to a long, eventful and enjoyable career working for the Environment Agency.’
