People from a wide range of backgrounds, with various levels of experience have joined us across all areas of our Flood Risk Management work. In their words, this is what they do and why they chose the Environment Agency to further their career.
Increasing sea storms. Heavier rainfall. Rising sea levels.
Andy Fraser
Project Manager
‘There are now great career opportunities in Flood Risk Management. The Agency has taken positive steps in setting up team structures, which will be able to face the challenge of inland and coastal flooding in the future. The recent experiences in Boscastle and Carlisle have clearly shown the dramatic impact of flooding to the community.
Having personally been involved in the Agency’s response to the Carlisle flooding, the scale and impact of the incident on the local people has been astounding. What has emerged is that just building bigger defences is not the whole answer.
In all parts of the country there needs to be a broad approach, from catchment management to protecting individual properties, being used as a positive step to reducing flood risk for people and the environment.
This is leading to the chance for the recruitment of qualified and skilled staff to implement these measures.’
